When it comes to termite treatment and control in Lancaster, Pa., you need the facts. But what does termite damage look like?

When it comes to termites, you need the facts. Many folks don't realize that termites cause more damage per year than fires, tornadoes, and hurricanes combined! With that kind of potential, it is crucial to find a professional to address your
Central Pa termite problems.

Jim Raifsnider, owner of
All County Termite & Pest Control in Lancaster, Pa, has over 40 years' experience when it comes to termites. When he was a kid, he recalls “I would go with my Dad on termite treatments, and help with digging the trench around the home, and patching holes after the treatment was completed. I always felt a sense of pride and accomplishment when my Dad told me the termites would never return. I have to admit though, the cheeseburger and cold A&W root beer my Dad would always buy me for lunch, after the job was completed, was always something I looked forward to for a job well done!”

40 years later, Jim is still helping homeowners solve even the toughest termite problems. Here are some ways to detect termite damage in your home or property from Jim himself! When it comes to termite treatment in Lancaster, Pa., nobody does it better than All County Termite & Pest Control. It's been our specialty since 1958!

 Detecting Termite Damage 101

Spotting Bubbling on Floors & Painted Wood Surfaces
Many people first report signs of damage, which is often discovered when they see a bubbling effect on painted wood, or hardwood floors. Often times, the termites have eaten everything up to the layer of paint, leaving nothing underneath.

Identifying "Swarmers"
At other times, you may encounter flying insects. It is crucial to identify them properly. Theses "swarmers" are reproductive members in the termite colony. They will emerge in the spring of the year, shed their wings, and attempt to re-establish soil contact. The swarmers do not cause any additional damage, however, they are indicative of an active termite colony which can cause major damage to your home. Don't be fooled and mistake them as flying ants. This mistake can cost you greatly!

Visible Termite Tubes
In some cases of termite infestation, you may see what are called shelter tubes. These are small but visible, usually about ¼”-1” in diameter tubes, constructed of soil particles, which the termites use as a passageway to go from the wood where they are feeding, back to their ground colonies. If you happen to scrape a portion of the termite tube away, you may encounter the worker termites. However, if the tube is opened, termites will often reconstruct the shelter tube, because they do not prefer additional air to enter their favorite feeding spots, i.e. your floor joists!
